The first time she did it, the gesture was really subtle.
River drew her pistol, examined it, caught Jayne’s eye and flicked the gun barrel towards the aft hallway.
Jayne’s nose twitched. He excused himself from his conversation and left through that door.
River holstered her weapon, waited a moment and followed. She didn’t exit the same way. Instead she went forward and circled around the whole ship.
Jayne was waiting for her in the room next to hers. Just in case.
River grasped the front of his shirt and yanked him forward, their lips met almost violently.
After that experience, he left a spare clean shirt in her room, just in case.
The second time she was bolder.
He was talking to Mal. She snuck up behind him. The first indication of her presence was a metallic click behind his head.
Jayne raised his hands and turned.
He realized just before she shot him that she was holding the full scale replica water pistol he’d picked up for her at their last stop.
He stared at her, dripping for a moment.
“Bang.” She said, gesturing towards the door with the muzzle.
Just before he reached for her she took off running. He followed. Not the least bit angry for being wet. He mentally promised himself he’d be dripping with a different kind of moisture as soon as he caught up with her.
The tenth time, the last crew member caught on.
The hundredth time he asked if she would move in with him. He’d been counting.
The thousandth time was their second wedding anniversary. She told him so. He’d given up keeping count. She gave up counting soon after.

I would say she would never kill him, but then I might have to write that. No!!! Not happening.
For some reason this just cracked me up. :)
Simon, because he is denial regarding his sister's age and is depressed over losing Kaylee?
Mal, because he is just kind of retarded when it comes to... um, people (and their relationships/feelings)?
Zoe, because she has other things to be thinking about/dealing with right now (poor Zoe)?
Kaylee, because she is distracted by Keith?
Keith, because he is new, and not as good at reading his fellow crewmembers yet?
Inara, because she was trained how to read those who can pay for her services, not rim trash or crazy people?
